Lorimat Jewellers is an award winning family business which has been operating in the heart of historic Kilkenny for more than 20 years. Voted ‘Jeweller of the Year’ at the Irish Wedding Awards 2019.

Teresa Brennan, the founder of Lorimat, lived in London during the ‘Swinging Sixties’. She left office life behind each Saturday to attend the famous Portobello Road market in bohemian Notting Hill. It was there that she first became involved in selling antique and vintage engagement rings and wedding rings, and she continued to do so until returning to Ireland and Kilkenny in 1980.

Teresa got married and became mum to two beautiful little girls. She worked in Butler Court Antiques before making the move to 24 Patrick Street to open Lorimat in December 1993.

The name she chose reflects how Lorimat has always been a friendly family business, as it is made up from:

Lo – Teresa’s daughter, Louise
Ri – her other daughter, Rita
Ma – her husband, Matthew
T – Teresa herself!

A range of antique and vintage jewellery including engagement rings and wedding rings helped make Lorimat a successful Kilkenny jewellers from the beginning. Teresa used her expert knowledge and vast contacts to source beautifully-crafted pieces from both national and international suppliers, to the delight of antique and vintage jewellery lovers in Kilkenny and much further afield.

In the mid-2000s, genuine antique and vintage engagement rings and wedding rings became more difficult to source, so Lorimat instead began to offer vintage-style rings. These proved even more popular as a means of enjoying the charm and sheer ‘wow’ factor of an antique or vintage engagement or wedding ring.

Teresa’s daughter Rita took over the business following Teresa’s retirement. She shares her mother’s passion for vintage engagement rings and wedding rings, and continues to carry a wide range of beautiful pieces. The rings feature not only diamonds, but also other elegant and beautiful precious stones such as sapphires, emeralds, rubies, and aquamarine.

Rita and her expert staff also offer an attentive and dedicated personalised service to all who choose Lorimat to buy their engagement rings, wedding rings or eternity rings.
